Productivity, Scanner and Device Apps

Sixty-one apps across ten sub-topics: writing and translation, login codes, document scanning, browsers, keyboards, remote access, hardware companions and photo editing. Every line below describes what the app does on your device and what it needs from you, because the interesting part of a tool app is rarely the feature list.

Section 1

How we evaluate tools, and what we refuse to copy

Most Android tool roundups are written outward from a keyword list. This one is written outward from the question a person actually has: which scanner gives me a usable PDF without making me sign up, which keyboard can I trust with what I type, which remote-access app is safe when the other machine stays on overnight.

Dlzer does not host APK files and does not distribute installers. Each entry links to a Dlzer page about that app, written from the developer’s own store listing and support documentation. Where a claim comes from the vendor rather than from something we could confirm, the wording says so.

The result is a smaller index than you will find elsewhere, with more space given to the two things that decide whether a tool is worth installing: what it does to your data, and what it costs after the free tier runs out.

  1. What it does on the device. Whether the app works locally, whether it needs an account, and whether it must upload the file or the photo to do its job. For a scanner this is the whole review.
  2. What it asks for. Camera access is obvious. Storage, contacts, accessibility services and launching as the default keyboard are the requests that change your risk, and we say which of them we saw.
  3. Where the paywall sits. Free with a watermark, free with ads, subscription for export quality, or a one-time purchase. A tool that is free until the moment you want the file is a different product from one that charges up front.
  4. Whether it depends on other hardware. Companion apps for printers, watches and new phones are listed with the dependency visible rather than buried in the second paragraph.
  5. How it behaves over time. Whether a factory reset or a device swap destroys your login codes, and whether the vendor has restructured the product in a way that makes older guides wrong.
  6. No invented scores. Dlzer does not run a lab, so there are no star ratings, no benchmark numbers and no download counts presented as evidence. If a page has a verdict, it is written as an editorial judgement.
What we do not doWe are not Google, Samsung, Microsoft, Adobe, Norton, Salesforce or any of the trademark owners named on this page, and we are not authorised to speak for them. Marks are used to identify the software, which is the normal descriptive use of a trademark. Nobody paid to appear in this list, and we do not host the software we describe.

Section 2

Writing and translation tools, and where each one stops

6 listings · last reviewed 14 October 2026

Two different jobs hide behind the word translate. One is holding a conversation with a person who does not speak your language; the other is turning a written document into another language without losing its structure. The apps below are sorted by which job they actually do well, because a phrasebook app will not handle a contract and a document translator will not help you order food.

Grammar checkers are a third thing again: they do not translate, they argue about your English. We list them here because they live on the keyboard, which means they follow you into every other app on this page.

AI Voice Translator Translate

Speech-first phrasebook: dictate or type a line, and the app speaks it in the target language while showing the written form underneath. It is built for the moment you are standing in front of someone, not for translating a document.voice-led

English to Spanish Translator

A single-pair translator for English and Spanish. The narrow scope is the point: fewer menus to open, and the pair you need is the first screen you see.one language pair

Google Translate

Google’s translator covers text, handwriting, camera and conversation modes, and language packs can be downloaded for offline use. In practice most people keep it for the camera mode, which translates a sign or a menu in place.free with limits

Grammarly

English grammar, spelling and tone checking that runs from its own keyboard, so the corrections follow you into mail, docs and chat. The free layer catches errors; the paid layer rewrites for clarity and tone.subscription optional

Language Translator App

A general translator with a phrasebook layer, aimed at travellers rather than at document work. Expect an ad-supported free tier and a paywall for offline packs.ad-supported

Microsoft Translator

Microsoft’s translator, with a conversation mode for two-way speech and downloadable offline packs. The enterprise lineage shows in how conservatively it handles names and product terms.free with limits

Section 3

Login codes, and the one thing people get wrong

5 listings · last reviewed 14 October 2026

The failure mode with authenticator apps is not that they get hacked. It is that a phone is replaced, the codes are not backed up, and the account becomes unreachable at the worst possible moment. Every entry in this section says whether the codes live only on the device or can be restored.

The second category error is expecting a consumer security scanner to detect what a mobile device operating system already blocks. These tools are useful for links and for finding a lost device. Treat them as a second opinion.

Duo Mobile

Push-based second factor used by companies and universities: a sign-in attempt sends a prompt you approve or deny. It only works for as long as the account that enrolled it still exists.organised enrolment

Google Authenticator

Six-digit time-based codes for a Google account, generated on the phone with no network call. The flip side of offline codes is that a factory reset without a backup loses them.works offline

Microsoft Authenticator

Approval prompts and codes for Microsoft accounts, plus passwordless sign-in. The number-matching prompt, where the app shows a number you have to confirm on screen, is what makes it resistant to approval fatigue.works offline

Norton360 Mobile Virus Scanner

A scanner aimed at risky installed apps, malicious links and stolen-device lookup. Read its findings as one signal among several, not as a verdict on the phone.subscription

Salesforce Authenticator

Approve-or-deny prompts for Salesforce work logins. There is nothing to configure beyond scanning the enrolment barcode your administrator sends.work account

Section 4

Store and system-service pages, read carefully

4 listings · last reviewed 14 October 2026

Two of the four pages below describe the same store, because Dlzer has two separate listings for it rather than one. We link both and say so, instead of quietly picking a favourite. If you came here looking to download the Play Store as an installable file, that is not what any of these pages are for, and we will not dress up that answer as a feature.

System components belong in this category too. Play Services is not an app you open; it is a framework other apps call, which is why uninstalling it is a bad idea and why its listing reads so unremarkable.

Google Play Store

Our second page for the Play Store, written from a different entry point on the store. Both pages describe the same software; we keep them because they were built at different times and neither is a copy of the other.system app

Google Play Games

Achievements, saved games and player profiles for titles that opt in. Google has reworked this layer several times, so which features you see depends on your device and region.system app

Google Play Services

The background framework that many Android apps call on for maps, sign-in, location and push. You do not open it; it is present because something else on the phone needs it.framework

Google Play Store

The Play Store as installed on Android phones: the place where apps are updated, permissions are shown and family sharing is set up. This is a description of the store, not a place to download the store as a file.system app

Section 5

Scanning, OCR and PDF: the largest group, and the easiest to get wrong

20 listings · last reviewed 14 October 2026

Twenty listings, because this is where Android scanning is genuinely crowded and where the differences are real rather than cosmetic. A scanner that only produces images is a camera with extra steps; OCR turns the page into searchable text, and that single decision separates most of the free apps from the paid ones.

We split the group by what you are scanning, since the privacy profile differs. Paperwork about you, receipts tied to your spending, codes that send you somewhere unknown, and camera recognition of things that are not documents at all. A rewards app that wants your receipts is a different decision from a document scanner.

Documents and PDFs

PDF Maker

Assembles a PDF from photos and existing files instead of scanning them, which is the right tool when your source is already digital.utility

PDF Pro-View PDF

A viewer for PDFs already sitting on the device, with text search and page navigation. It does not edit, and we are not going to describe it as an editor.reading

PDF Reader: Edit & Convert PDF

Reader plus light annotation and conversion in both directions between PDF and office formats. Conversion quality tracks layout complexity, and multi-column tables are where it shows.subscription optional

PDF Reader: PDF Scanner & Edit

Reader and scanner in one shell, for people who both receive PDFs and have to produce them from paper.subscription optional

ACE Scanner – PDF Scanner App

Camera-to-PDF scanning with edge detection and multi-page capture, then a shareable file with no desktop in the loop.subscription optional

Genius Scan – PDF Scanner

A scanner that concentrates on output quality: perspective correction, a black-and-white document mode, and a preview step before the page is committed.subscription optional

Mobile Scanner App – Scan PDF

Generic name, generic job: capture, crop, export. Useful when you want the shortest possible path from camera to file.ad-supported

CamScanner- scanner, PDF maker

The scanner most people meet first. Cropping and PDF assembly are solid; the free tier stamps a watermark on exports and keeps steering you toward the subscription.ad-supported

DScanner – Camera Scanner

Multi-page capture with automatic border detection and export to Drive or iCloud. No account is required to end up with a usable PDF.local-first

Adobe Scan AI PDF Scanner, OCR

Adobe’s scanner adds OCR to the page detection, so the result behaves like a document you can search rather than a flat picture of one.OCR

TurboScan™ Pro: PDF scanner

The paid-up-front entry here: no ad layer, batch capture, and export by mail or share sheet. The licence is bought once rather than renewed.one-time purchase

Receipts and expenses

Receipt Pal Scanner & Rewards

Receipt capture tied to a rewards layer. Decide consciously whether points in exchange for purchase data is a trade you want to make before photographing anything.rewards-backed

Receipt Scanner: Easy Expense

Receipt capture with expense categories and export, built for reimbursement and tax paperwork rather than for points.expense use

QR codes and barcodes

QR & Barcode Scanner

Reads QR codes and product barcodes and keeps a history. Barcode lookups return catalogue price and product data, so treat that number as a listing rather than a live shelf price.basic tool

QR Code Scanner & Scanner App

Straightforward QR reading with generation as a secondary feature. Check what it asks for beyond the camera before you grant storage and location.ad-supported

QR & Barcode Scanner Launcher

A scanner bundled with a home-screen launcher. The code reading is the reason you search for it; the launcher is the product. Install knowing which of the two you wanted.changes launcher

Safe QR OCR AI Scanner Creator

QR reading, QR creation and text extraction from images. The marketing leans on AI phrasing; the part that earns its place is the optical text extraction.OCR

Recognition rather than documents

AI Math Scanner: Maths Solver

Camera maths solver that returns worked steps for many problem types, which is exactly why some teachers ask students not to use it during homework.study aid

Dog Scanner: Breed Recognition

Identifies a dog’s likely breeds from a photo, including mixed-breed guesses. It is a hypothesis about appearance, not a pedigree.recognition

Dual App – Web Scanner App

Pairs a web scanner with an app-cloning feature. The cloning is why this sits in a scanner list, and also the reason to read the permission requests carefully before signing in anywhere.check permissions

Section 6

Four browsers, three real decisions

4 listings · last reviewed 14 October 2026

A browser is where your passwords, sessions and history collect, which makes it the most consequential install on this page. We describe what each one syncs and what it blocks, and leave the rest to you.

The two Chrome entries are not the same app. One is the stable browser most people have; the other is a testing channel that installs beside it and updates faster, and it belongs here only because readers search for it under that name.

Chrome

Google’s browser: tab sync across devices, the autofill stack and the extension model. The convenience and the account tie are the same thing viewed from two sides.system default

Chrome Dev

A separate-install Chrome channel intended for testing. It sits beside stable Chrome and updates sooner, which is both the reason to install it and the reason not to rely on it.testing channel

Google

The Google search app, which in practice is a shortcut to search, Lens and voice input, plus the Discover feed on the home screen.entry point

Samsung Internet Browser

Samsung’s browser with a tracking-prevention panel and desktop-site mode. It ships pre-installed on Galaxy devices, so most users meet it before they choose it.vendor app

Section 7

Keyboards: the app that sees everything you type

3 listings · last reviewed 14 October 2026

Replacing the system keyboard is the deepest permission a normal user grants an app. Whatever a keyboard can do for you, it can also read your passwords, your addresses and your messages before they are sent. We keep the two Gboard entries separate because the listings are separate, and we say plainly what that permission means.

The large-key keyboard sits in the same section for a different reason: it is the accessibility option people look for when default key spacing is the problem, not their typing speed.

1C Big Keyboard

An oversized key layout for people who struggle with default spacing and small targets. It changes the keyboard, not the phone.accessibility

Gboard

Google’s keyboard: glide typing, clipboard, inline search and emoji lookup. Where it ships pre-installed it is the system input method rather than an app you picked.vendor app

Gboard – the Google Keyboard

The same keyboard family published under its longer listing name. The two entries differ in how the vendor markets them, not in what they type.vendor app

Section 8

Companion apps for printers, watches and phones

5 listings · last reviewed 14 October 2026

Everything in this section is useless on its own. HP Smart without an HP printer, Galaxy Wearable without a watch, Smart Switch without a new phone. That dependency is the honest thing to say about them, and it is also the reason these apps are frequently installed and frequently deleted.

Galaxy Wearable (Samsung Gear)

Pairs a Galaxy phone with a Samsung wearable: watch faces, notifications and app sync are managed here rather than on the watch itself.needs companion device

HP Smart

Printer companion that finds the printer on your network, then handles printing, scanning and supply levels. Every one of those jobs assumes the printer is reachable from the phone.needs companion device

Samsung Notes

Samsung’s note-taking app with handwriting, PDF annotation and sync across Galaxy devices. It reads best if you are already inside that hardware family.vendor app

Samsung Smart Switch Mobile

Migration tool that copies photos, contacts, messages and apps when you move to a Galaxy phone. Most people need it once and then never open it again.one-time use

Shop Samsung

The Samsung storefront: product pages, trade-in quotes and order tracking. It is a shop rather than a device utility, which is why it sits at the end of this section.storefront

Section 9

Remote access and cloud files, where the risk is the machine on the other end

5 listings · last reviewed 14 October 2026

A remote-desktop app is only as safe as the computer that leaves it switched on. Every entry here needs three things at once: a strong account, a device that stays reachable, and a clear idea of who could otherwise connect. That combination is why support tools get abused, and why the vendor screens for commercial use.

Cloud storage is listed with them because the practical question is the same: what happens to a file when the device you are holding is not the device it lives on.

AnyDesk Remote Desktop

Remote access with a low-latency session protocol. Unattended access assumes the far machine stays switched on and signed in.commercial licence

Remote Desktop

Microsoft Remote Desktop: connects to a Windows machine that already runs a Remote Desktop host, usually a work PC on a business edition of Windows.needs host

TeamViewer Meeting

Video meetings from the TeamViewer family, with screen sharing and phone dial-in as the differentiators.meetings

TeamViewer Remote Control

Support and remote-control sessions. The free licence covers personal use only, and the service actively screens connections it thinks are commercial.subscription optional

Google Drive

Cloud storage with document, sheet and slide editing on top. The subscription buys space; the editors themselves are free to use.quota-billed

Section 10

Camera recognition and the two small tools that earn their space

3 listings · last reviewed 14 October 2026

These are the apps people install for one afternoon and keep for years: measure a shelf, name a plant, find out what a building is. They share a limitation worth saying out loud. Each one reports a guess, and the guess is only as good as the photo.

Picture This: Plant Identifier

Names a plant from a photo and attaches a watering and light schedule to the answer. Identification is probabilistic, so two pictures of the same plant can disagree.recognition

Tape measure Measurement ruler

Turns the phone into a ruler using screen pixels, plus camera-based distance for longer runs. Pixel rulers drift with display size, so verify against a real tape before cutting anything.small tool

Google Lens

Visual search launched from the camera: objects, printed text, translations and similar images. The answers come from Google’s index, which makes them leads rather than conclusions.needs network

Section 11

Making pictures and video, and what each subscription actually unlocks

6 listings · last reviewed 14 October 2026

We put editors in the tools hub rather than the entertainment hub on purpose. These are instruments for producing something; the streaming apps on the media hub are for consuming it. The dividing line is whether you finish with a file you made.

The commercial patterns differ more than the feature lists. One editor is genuinely free with no account, one gates the export quality, one sells a preset library, and one is bundled into a wider photo subscription. That is the comparison worth making before you download six of them.

Canva

Template-led design for social graphics, presentations and print layouts. The workable output for a brand usually sits behind the paid tier, along with background removal.subscription optional

Picsart

Photo editor organised around effects, cutouts and a community feed. The subscription removes the ad layer and unlocks the asset library.ad-supported

VSCO

Film-style presets and a camera that shoots into the look you selected. Preset depth, rather than editing tools, is what people pay for.subscription

Snapseed

A free photo editor with no account requirement, offering layer masks, selective adjustment and RAW support. It has stayed quiet about monetisation, which is why it is still on this list.free

Adobe Lightroom

Photo editing tied to Adobe’s catalogue and preset system, with settings syncing between devices under a Creative Cloud plan.subscription

CapCut

Short-form video editor with templates, automatic captions and licensed music, built around vertical export formats.subscription optional

Section 12

Choosing between tools that look identical

The ten questions below cover almost every decision in this category. Answer the first one that applies and the shortlist usually collapses to two apps.

Pick by the constraint you actually have
Your situation Start here Why
A paper document must become a searchable file Adobe Scan or Genius Scan OCR is the feature that matters, and both do it without pushing an account first.
You only need the PDF, once, today DScanner or TurboScan DScanner needs no sign-up; TurboScan is paid up front and has no ad layer to sit through.
Two people, two languages, out loud Microsoft Translator or Google Translate Both run a conversation mode and both carry offline packs for the moment the network fails.
A third party must see my English writing Grammarly, deliberately Keyboard checkers read what you type everywhere. Decide that consciously rather than by accident.
Work or school enrolled me in two-factor Duo, Microsoft or Salesforce Authenticator You do not choose these. Check the backup route before your device is replaced.
I need to reach my own PC from a hotel Microsoft Remote Desktop or AnyDesk Remote Desktop needs a host edition of Windows; AnyDesk works around that but bills commercial use.
A new phone arrives this weekend Samsung Smart Switch plus Google Drive Migration copies the device; the cloud account is what makes the next six months comfortable.
The default keys are too small 1C Big Keyboard It is the accessibility answer in this group, and it stays a keyboard rather than a launcher.
I want one editor and no subscription Snapseed Masks, selective adjustment and RAW without an account, which is rare in this section.
Editing vertical video for posting CapCut Templates, captions and vertical export are the centre of the product, not an add-on.

One pattern worth internalising: the tool that is free and accountless is usually the tool that monetises your attention instead of your wallet. That is not automatically worse, but it is a different deal, and the terms show up in the permissions rather than in the price.

The second pattern is dependency. HP Smart, Galaxy Wearable and Smart Switch are excellent software for an object you either own or do not. If you are reading about them before buying the hardware, that is the right order.

Section 13

Terms used on this page, in plain words

Term What it means here
OCR Optical character recognition: the step that turns a photographed page into text a phone can search and select. A scanner without it is producing pictures.
Time-based code The six digits an authenticator app regenerates every thirty seconds, calculated from a secret both devices hold. It needs no network, which is also why a lost phone can lock you out.
Unattended access Connecting to a machine that nobody is sitting in front of. It requires that machine to stay on, signed in and reachable, which is where the risk lives.
Launcher The home-screen app that draws your icons and app drawer. Some scanners install one whether you asked for it or not.
Glide typing Dragging a single stroke across letters instead of tapping each one. It lives in the keyboard, so it is a reason people replace the system input method.
Freemium export Where a free app lets you capture and preview but charges to remove the watermark or unlock the export. Look for this before you trust a scanner with a tax document.
System component Software installed with the device that other apps call on, such as Google Play Services. Unremarkable listings are often the most important ones.
Trademark use Naming a product to describe it. Our pages are independent and unaffiliated; naming an app is how we tell you which one we mean.

Section 14

Questions readers ask about this category

Do these apps update themselves if Dlzer does not host them?

Correct, and deliberately. Dlzer describes apps; it does not package or serve installers. Updates arrive through the store you installed from, which means the version on your phone is always the release the vendor distributes today, rather than something frozen on our server.

Why are two pages on this site both about the Play Store?

Because the archive has two listings, written at different times from different starting points, and we did not want to erase one to make the index tidier. Both are linked above with that explanation attached. Where the duplicate pairs are genuinely interchangeable, they are on the removal list instead.

Which of these are safe to use on documents with my name on them?

Start with the ones that never leave the device: DScanner, Genius Scan and TurboScan can produce a file locally. Anything advertising cloud sync or AI processing is shipping the page somewhere else, which may be perfectly fine but is a choice you should make rather than discover.

Is a keyboard app really a security question?

It is the biggest one on this page. A keyboard sees every character before the receiving app gets it, including passwords typed into a bank. Stay with a first-party keyboard unless you have a specific reason to replace it, and if you do replace it, keep the old one enabled so you can switch back.

Why is there no rating out of ten?

Because we would be inventing the arithmetic. Dlzer has no test lab and no reliable download telemetry, so the pages describe scope, dependency and cost, and leave the ranking to your own constraint.

Do you get paid when someone installs from these links?

No. There is no affiliate arrangement on this page and no placement fee in either direction. If that ever changes for any listing, the change goes in the correction log below rather than into a footnote.

Section 15

Corrections and change log

We log what we got wrong, because an unlabelled rewrite is not a correction.

14 October 2026
Page published with 61 listings across 10 sub-topics. No prior version to correct; two Play Store listings are flagged above rather than merged, and the note explains why.
Standing practice
When a description turns out to be wrong, we edit the sentence, keep the original claim visible in this log, and date it. An unlabelled rewrite is not a correction.

Spotted something wrong? Write to [email protected] with the page and the claim. We correct in public and keep the note.

Section 16

How this page is run

Who writes this. Dlzer editorial staff, from store listings and vendor documentation. No listing is contributed by the developer and none is sold.

What we do not do. No APK hosting, no paid placement, no recycled ratings copied from another site, and no claim about performance we have not been able to observe.

Trademarks. Google, Android, Samsung, Galaxy, Chrome, Gboard, Microsoft, Adobe, Lightroom, Norton, Salesforce, Grammarly, Canva, Picsart, VSCO, Snapseed, CapCut, AnyDesk, TeamViewer and the other marks above belong to their owners and are used to identify the software.

Corrections. Mail [email protected] with the page and the sentence. We fix it, and we leave a dated note in the log.

Reporting. If a listing describes an app in a way that could put someone at risk, tell us first; we would rather correct a page than defend one.
